The Red Dragons, playing their first game in four weeks, improved to 7-2 with the win.

Behind Coston and Lewis, Cortland jumped out to a 42-22 halftime lead and led by at least 18 points the entire second half. Coston scored 14 of his career-high 17 points in the opening 20 minutes. He hit six of his eight shots from the floor in the half and finished the game 7-of-11 shooting. Lewis recorded 13 points and six rebounds in the first half and ended the game with 15 points and seven boards.

Freshman Ron Evans (New Hartford) added nine points and five rebounds off the bench for the Red Dragons. Sophomore Paul Oliver (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) added eight points and freshman Chris Milke (Macedon/Palmyra-Macedon) led the team with three assists and two blocks.

Elson Pickering (Brooklyn/Frederick Douglass Acad.) was Clarkson's lone double-figure scorer with 12 points. The junior forward also posted game-highs of seven rebounds and six blocked shots. Brian Salanger (Syracuse/West Genesee) made 3-of-5 shots from three-point range and finished with nine points.

Lewis scored six points and Coston added four as the Red Dragons took a 12-0 lead 5:30 into the game. The Golden Knights (2-6) fought back and got as close as 23-19 on two Pickering free throws with 5:53 left. Cortland finished the half, however, on a decisive 19-3 run and led by 20 points at intermission. Coston scored 10 points during that stretch, including the final two baskets of the period. Cortland's lead grew to as high as 29 points on a number of occasions in the second half.
