CLINTON, N.Y. – The nationally top-ranked Cortland men's cross country team competed at the Hamilton Invitational on Saturday without the majority of its top runners. The Red Dragons finished sixth in the 10-team field with 178 points, trailing Queens (41 points), Plattsburgh (55), Hamilton (62), Ithaca (88) and Rochester (171).
Sophomore
Jared Newell (Queensbury) was Cortland's top scorer, crossing the finish line 26th in 27:55.1 over the 8,000-meter course (the results incorrectly listed Cortland's top runner as
Niko Viglione, but he did not run). Hamilton junior Peter Kosgei won the race in 24:39.9. Junior
Jeffrey Marrone (Hauppauge/St. Anthony's) finished 35th in 28:24.6), followed by freshman
Ian Clerkin (Cornwall), who finished 42nd in 28:43.4. Also scoring for Cortland were junior
John Nulty (Oceanside), 54th in 29:19.4, junior
Caleb Olsen (Bellmore/J.F.K. Bellmore), 57th in 29:24.1), sophomore
Nick Jeror (Rome/Rome Free Academy), 67th in 29:57.2 and junior
Keith Lusby (North Babylon), 83rd in 31:16.2.
The Red Dragons return to action at the Penn St. National Meet next Friday.
