CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior setter
Brittney Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) became the Cortland women's volleyball career assist leader as the Red Dragons won two matches during the second day of their own invitational.
Horton totaled 28 assists in Cortland's 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 win over Geneseo, then broke the record when she dished out 45 assists in a 20-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 victory over Vassar. Horton now has 4,366 assists in her four-year career, breaking the record of 4,326 set by Adriane Battaglioli from 1995-98.
With the victories, Cortland finished 3-1 during the two-day tournament and is 19-8 on the season.
Juniors
Michelle Gaufman (Wantagh/MacArthur) and
Ariel Rakita (Lake Grove/Sachem) led the Red Dragons with 10 kills apiece versus Geneseo. Senior
Jessica Bonczar (Eden) led the team with 11 digs, followed by Gaufman's 10 digs, and freshman
Ashley Coyle (Mt. Hope/Minisink Valley) finished with six kills and nine digs.
Coyle paced Cortland versus Vassar with 16 kills and 12 digs adn Rakita recorded 13 kills and 18 digs. Gaufman finished with 12 kills, nine digs and three aces and sophomore
Kayla Gallipeau (Liverpool) registered seven kills and three blocks.
