Cortland Finishes 17th, Beats Eight Div. I Schools at Penn St. National

Kate Ramsbotham was Cortland's third-best performer with a 115th-place finish out of 300 runners
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – The SUNY Cortland women's cross country team, ranked 12th in the latest Division III national poll, turned in a 17th-place finish out of 28 teams at the primarily Division I Penn State National. Cortland finished with 499 points to defeat eight Division I teams, including nationally 13th-ranked Villanova, along with two Division II schools.

The top four teams in the race are nationally ranked Division I schools. Seventh-ranked West Virginia won with 40 points, followed by 20th-ranked Penn State (83), 25th-ranked Wake Forest (136) and 28th-ranked Duke (154). A total of 21 Division I teams competed.

Sophomore Andi Palen (Gardiner/Wallkill) paced the Red Dragons with a 54th-place time of 21:52 over 6,000 meters. The race featured 300 runners. Senior Brittany Brunetto (Fishkill/Beacon) finished 94th in 22:30 and junior Kate Ramsbotham (West Islip) was 115th (22:51).

Senior Erin McGrath (Oakdale/Connetquot) finished 167th (23:34), with freshman Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) was close behind in 169th (23:36). Rounding out Cortland's top seven were sophomore Jessica Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) in 193rd place and sophomore Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) in 194th place, both officially in 23:51.

Cortland's other runners were junior Katie Dylag (Williamsville/Williamsville East) in 203rd place (24:00), freshman Chrissy DiLallo (Randolph) in 219th place (24:11), junior Gina Smith (East Meadow) in 234th place (24:22) and junior Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) in 244th place (24:41).
