ITHACA, N.Y. – Despite not entering many of its top runners, the SUNY Cortland men's cross country team, ranked first nationally in Division III, placed five competitors in the top 10 at the John Reif Memorial Run hosted by Cornell University. The event did not feature team scoring.
Freshman
Ian Clerkin (Cornwall) finished third overall and first as a Red Dragon, covering the 5,000-meter course in 17:05.7. Cornell junior Chris Tilger won the race in 16:45.8. Right behind Clerkin in fourth position was junior
Silas Carey (Delhi/Delaware Academy) in 17:10.0. Rounding out the top-10 finishers for the Red Dragons were sophomore
Matt Temme (Ridge/Longwood) in sixth place (17:23.3), freshman
Sean Twomey (Cornwall) in ninth place (17:41.2) and freshman
Bill Hughes (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) in 10th position (17:44.8).
The Red Dragons also featured four other runners who placed in the top 17 in the 46-man field. Freshman
Greg Burns (Watertown/South Jefferson) finished 13th in 17:50.2, junior
Caleb Olsen (Bellmore/J.F.K. Bellmore) crossed the finish line 14th in 17:51.7, junior
Eric Graber (Lansingburgh) finished 16th in 17:59.6 and sophomore
Nick Jeror (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished 17th in 18:11.7).
