Brittany Brunetto earned first team All-SUNYAC honors with her sixth-place finish
CASTILE, N.Y. - Sophomore
Andi Palen (Gardiner/Wallkill) earned Cortland's first individual SUNYAC cross country title since Betsy Schultz in 2003, leading the Red Dragons to a second-place finish at the conference championships. Geneseo won the meet with 26 points, followed by Cortland (47), Plattsburgh (77), Brockport (79), Fredonia St. (109), Oswego (194), New Paltz (217), Oneonta (218), Buffalo St. (256) and Potsdam (291). Overall, 103 runners competed in the championships.
Palen completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:58, nine seconds ahead of runner-up Laura Iafrati of Geneseo. Palen was joined by senior
Brittany Brunetto (Beacon) on the All-SUNYAC first team. Brunetto placed sixth in 22:41. Two other runners earned second team all-league honors for the Red Dragons -- junior
Katie Dylag (Williamsville/Williamsville East), who finished 11th in 23:08 and senior
Erin McGrath (Oakdale/Connetquot), who placed 13th in 23:18. Junior
Kate Ramsbotham (West Islip) also scored for Cortland, crossing the finish line in 16th place in 23:21.
