CANTON, N.Y. - The Cortland women cross country team, ranked 13th nationally in Division III, qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with a second-place finish at the Atlantic Regional hosted by St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons scored 72 points and finished just eight points behind winner Geneseo. A total of 30 teams competed.
All seven of Cortland's competitors earned all-region status by virtue of placing in the top 35. Sophomore Andi Palen (Gardiner/Wallkill) led the Red Dragons with a fifth-place showing, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 23:17. Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence won the race in 22:32. Senior Brittany Brunetto (Beacon) placed 12th in 23:38, followed closely by junior Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough), who finished 15th in 23:58. Cortland's two other scoring athletes were freshman Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/V-V-S), 19th in 24:05, and junior Kate Ramsbotham (West Islip), 21st in 24:10.
Also competing for Cortland were senior Erin McGrath (Oakdale/Connetquot), 23rd in 24:11, and junior Katie Dylag (Williamsville/Williamsville East), 26th in 24:16.
