FREDONIA, N.Y. – The SUNY Cortland women's volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason tournament with a 3-0 victory over Geneseo. The Red Dragons won by set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-21 and will face host Fredonia on Friday at 3 p.m.
Cortland, the five-time defending SUNYAC champion, improved to 30-10 with the victory. The Red Dragons have recorded at least 30 wins in five of the last six seasons.
Junior
Michelle Gaufman (Wantagh/MacArthur) led the way versus Geneseo with 11 kills and 10 digs and senior
Brittney Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) finished with 31 assists and nine digs.
Freshman
Sheena Asibey (Brentwood) contributed eight kills and four blocks, junior
Ariel Rakita (Lake Grove/Sachem) registered seven kills and 10 digs and freshman
Ashley Coyle (Mt. Hope/Minisink Valley) totaled six kills, four digs and two aces.
Krista Frieling led Geneseo (12-24) with seven kills. Jessica McKenna added five kills, Laura Lobaugh had 16 digs and Ashley Saltzman finished with 18 assists.
