Reilly Stops 34 Shots in 2-0 Setback at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Fredonia St. men's hockey team scored two first-period goals and went on to defeat Cortland, 2-0, Saturday night in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference with the loss, while the Blue Devils improved to 3-4-1 and 1-3.

Fredonia St. opened the scoring at four minutes, 47 seconds of the opening period when Jeff Aonso set up Billy Sanborn's first goal of the season. The Blue Devils added a second goal at 10:50 as Jeff Sylvester notched his first goal of the season, assisted by Aonso and Andrew Dissanayake.

The teams played scoreless hockey in the second period with Cortland having two power-play opportunities. In the third period, the Red Dragons killed off two penalties and pulled freshman goalie Mike Reilly (New York/Bismarck Bobcats) with 48 seconds remaining but could not put a shot past Fredonia St. goalie Kody Van Rentergem.

Reilly finished with 34 saves for Cortland, and Van Rentergem stopped all 36 shots he faced.
