David Dow posted the best times in both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle races
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland evened its record at 2-2 with a 136-81 victory over visiting Oneonta. Senior
David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury (CT)) and junior
Dan Evans (Hamburg) each claimed two individual victories for Cortland, which was competing in its final home dual meet of the season.
Dow won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:20.54) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.58), the latter as an exhibition entry. Evans touched the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.79) and 100-yard freestyle (47.33).
Senior
Drew Hilker (Ithaca) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.82), freshman
Judd Simon (Oneida) captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.73) and junior
Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) won the 100-yard butterfly (54.09). Freshman
Dan Drew (Victor) won the 100-yard backstroke (57.70) and senior
Brett Poffenbarger (Owego/Owego Free Academy) placed first as an exhibition entry in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.90).
Cortland also won the 200-yard medley relay as Drew, senior
H. Austin Rhoads (Orchard Park), senior
Jimmy Roeser (Suffern) and Evans were clocked in 1:42.86.
Oneonta's Michael Martinez (Nanuet/Monroe-Woodbury) won both the 1-meter diving (240.22 points) and 3-meter diving (213.15 points) competitions. The guests also had the best time in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with the combination of Joseph Farrell (Long Beach), Bruce Wemple (Bethlehem/Delmar), Matt Sudran (Plainview/Plainview Old Bethpage JFK) and Chris Johnson (Levittown/Division Avenue) finishing in 1:34.27.
Johson also finished second in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.76) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.61), although he earned first-place points in the latter since Cortland's winner Dow exhibitioned the event. Farrell placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:45.97).
