Andi Palen set a meet record and provisionally qualified for nationals in the 5,000-meter run
CANTON, N.Y. - Cortland earned three victories and three runner-up finishes at the non-team scoring St. Lawrence University Holiday Relays.
Sophomore
Andi Palen (Gardiner/Wallkill) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III championships and set a meet record with her winning time of 17:31.09 in the 5,000-meter run. Junior
Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) won the high jump by clearing 5' 3.25" and senior
Keri Laviska (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) finished first in the pole vault with a height of 10' 11.75".
Senior
Sarah Kimball (Liverpool) recorded the same top height as Laviska in the pole vault, but finished second due to more misses than her teammate. Junior
Katie Dylag (Williamsville/Williamsville East) placed second behind Palen in the 5,000 meters (18:40.03) and sophomore
Valerie Winberry (Bay Shore) was the runner-up in the shot put (35' 5.75").
Cortland's third-place finishers included junior
Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) in the mile (5:18.36), freshman
Jenna Evarts (West Islip) in the 55-meter dash (7.68), senior
Erin McGrath (Oakdale/Connetquot) in the 5,000 meters (18:56.11) and junior
Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in the 400 meters (1:02.17). Also in third were junior
Katie Taber (Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour) in the pole vault (10' 0"), freshman
Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) in the long jump (15' 11") and freshman
Jen MacKenzie (Liverpool) in the high jump (4' 11.5").
The 4x200-meter relay team of Sahm, Evarts, freshman
Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) and Baker placed third in 1:53.59. Sophomore
Jess Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) finished fourth in the mile (5:33.99) and sophomore
Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) placed fourth in the 5,000 meters (19:02.63). Freshman
Brenna Filipello (Bethlehem) posted fifth-place finishes in both the 55-meter hurdles (9.52) and the long jump (15' 6").
