ONEONTA, N.Y. - Ryan Morin led three Oneonta double-figure scorers with 13 points as the host Red Dragons defeated Cortland, 66-59, in the opening SUNYAC game for both teams. Cortland drops to 2-3 overall and Oneonta is 3-2 with the decision.
Brian Beckford recorded 10 points and seven rebounds and Brian Hooks scored 10 points for Oneonta. Maurice Lane added seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Carson Niehoff (West Islip) led Cortland with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds. He scored 14 of his points in the second half. Junior

Oneonta led 37-24 at halftime and quickly extended the lead to 16 points on a Shane Gillette three-pointer in the opening seconds of the second half. Cortland scored the next seven points on baskets by Lewis and Oliver and a Niehoff trey and got back to within 40-31 with 16:52 remaining.
Oneonta pushed its lead to 51-38 over the next five minutes, but a Niehoff three-pointer and two Coston baskets drew Cortland within six at 51-45 with 9:08 left. The deficit was seven points with 6:17 on the clock before Oneonta went on an 8-0 run, including three points from Morin and two each from Hooks and Beckford, to take a 63-48 advantage with 3:11 left.
Cortland made one final surge as Niehoff netted eight points and sophomore
Ron Evans (New Hartford) sank a three-pointer during an 11-2 run that cut Oneonta's lead to six with 18 seconds left. Oneonta missed a free throw, but Cortland was unable to capitalize any further.
