Cortland Claims 15th SUNYAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Crown

Sarah Kimball led Cortland's sweep of the top five places in the pole vault
GENEVA, N.Y. – Cortland repeated as SUNYAC champion and won its 15th title overall at the league's women's indoor track and field championship meet, held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

The Red Dragons finished with 155 points, 13.5 points higher than runner-up Geneseo. Buffalo State was third with 103 points, followed by Brockport (72.5), Fredonia (56.5), Oswego (41), Oneonta (33) and Plattsburgh (20.5). Cortland first-year head coach Steve Patrick was chosen as the SUNYAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches.

Junior Alanna Hollborn (Islip Terrace/East Islip) won league individual championships in both the mile (5:05.55) and 3,000 meters (10:28.93), both with ECAC qualifying times. Sophomore Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) inished first in the high jump with an NCAA provisional height of 5' 5".

Cortland earned 33 points, more than 20 percent of its total, with a sweep of the top five positions in the pole vault. Junior Sarah Kimball (Liverpool) repeated as league champion with an NCAA provisional height of 11' 5.25". Junior Keri Laviska (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) also cleared 11' 5.25", but Kimball was declared the champion due to fewer misses. Sophomore Katie Taber (Montour Falls/Odessa-Montour) finished third (10' 11.5"), sophomore Nicole Ragard (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) was fourth (9' 5.75") and freshman Sarah Wignall (Weedsport) placed fifth (9' 5.75").

The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Carly Kennedy (North Tonawanda), sophomore Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), freshman Barbara Green (Levittown/Division Avenue) and senior Ashley Wirges (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) finished second with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:09.91. Also earning second-place finishes were sophomore Erin Gallagher (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in the 55-meter hurdles (ECAC-qualifying 8.97 seconds) and Baker in the 400 meters (1:01.48).
