Hilker and Humphreys Win Individual Titles, Part of Winning Relay at Day 2 of SUNYAC Meet

Drew Hilker broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly set by current head coach Brian Tobin in 1993
BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Cortland junior Drew Hilker (Ithaca) and senior Brett Humphreys (Amsterdam) each posted individual victories and were also part of a winning relay during the second day of competition at the SUNYAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Cortland remained in second place in the team standings with one day remaining. Geneseo maintained its top position with 576.5 points, followed by Cortland with 448.5 points. New Paltz (335) and Oswego (294) are also within striking distance of the Red Dragons. (NOTE: Scores after Thursday's events that listed Cortland in third place were reported incorrectly.)

Hilker set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly, first with his prelim time of 51.47 seconds and again with his winning time of 51.38 seconds in the finals. He won the event for the second straight season while breaking the school mark of 51.65 seconds set by current Cortland head coach Brian Tobin in 1993.

Humphreys provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke with his winning time of 58.14 seconds. He has won the event two of the last three years. The combination of freshman Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie), Humphreys, sophomore Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) and Hilker captured the 200-yard medley relay in 1:36.11, one second off the school record.

Following Humphreys was junior Brett Poffenbarger (Owego/Owego Free Academy) in second place (1:00.25) and junior Austin Rhoads (Orchard Park) in third place (1:00.83, 1:00.32 in prelims). The Red Dragons also finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Hilker, sophomore Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman), Humphreys and senior Jeremy Cuebas (Brentwood) were clocked at 7:03.89.

Junior David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury (CT)) finished third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.06) and Moessinger was third in the 100-yard butterfly (52.65). Freshman Daniel Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished fourth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:26.81, 4:25.40 in prelims) and junior James Roeser (Suffern) placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (54.26).
