Cortland Finishes Second at SUNYAC Championships; Humphreys and Dow Win Titles on Final Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Cortland finished in second place for the third straight season at the SUNYAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Geneseo won its 10th straight league title with 892.5 points, followed in the top five at the nine-team meet by Cortland (683.5), Oswego (474), New Paltz (472) and Fredonia (271).

Two Red Dragons captured individual league titles on the final day of competition. Senior Brett Humphreys (Amsterdam) won the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA provisional "B" cut time of 2:07.85.  Junior David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury (CT)) won his second 1,650-yard freestyle crown in three years with a time of 16:43.15.

Sophomore Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.87) and sophomore Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:57.43). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Jeremy Cuebas (Brentwood), senior Evan Jones (East Amherst/Williamsville North), VanSickle and junior Drew Hilker (Ithaca) turned in a third-place time of 3:13.18.

Hilker finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (46.69), junior Austin Rhoads (Orchard Park) was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.19) and junior James Roeser (Suffern) finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.06). Roeser also earned a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.86).

Senior Kevin Stuttle (Dryden) placed fifth in three-meter diving (468.20 points), Cuebas was sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:24.16) and junior Roy Culkin (Holtsville/Sachem East) finished eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.84, 2:01.94 prelims).
