CANTON, N.Y. – Junior
Sarah Kimball (Liverpool) won her second straight title in the pole vault and two other Red Dragons earned runner-up finishes to highlight Cortland's performances at the two-day New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University.
Cortland placed 10th out of 15 schools in the final team standings with 47 points. Rochester won the title with 107 points, followed by St. Lawrence with 90 points
Kimball cleared 10' 11.75” to successfully defend her pole vault title. Sophomore
Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) finished second in the high jump with a height of 5' 4.25”. She actually recorded the same height as champion Amanda Haney of Geneseo, but Haney won the title due to fewer misses. Junior
Alanna Hollborn (Islip Terrace/East Islip) was the runner-up in the mile with a time of 5:09.67.
Sophomore
Kate Ramsbotham (West Islip) finished fourth in the mile (5:13.76) and junior
Keri Laviska (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) placed fourth in the pole vault (10' 6”). Freshman Andrea Palen (Gardiner/Wallkill) finished sixth in the mile (5:18.68) and senior
Ashley Wirges (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) was sixth in the 400 meters (1:00.98).
Also scoring points for the Red Dragons were sophomore
Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in the 400 meters (7th place, 1:01.09, 1:00.57 prelims), sophomore
Erin Sills (Smithtown) in the long jump (7th place, 16' 3”) and freshman Jessica Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) in the 800 meters (2:23.55).
