Amaan Siddeeq Breaks School 200-Meter Dash Record at Bucknell Meet

LEWISBURG, PA. – Cortland senior Amaan Siddeeq (Goshen) broke an 11-year-old school record in the 200-meter dash as one of seven Red Dragon NCAA qualifying performances at the Bucknell University Bison Classic. There was no team scoring at the two-day event.

Siddeeq defeated 48 other entrants and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 200 meters with his winning time of 21.14 seconds. Stefan Mascoll set the previous school record of 21.20 seconds in 1997.

The combination of seniors Kevin Ma (Cornwall), J.J. Riese (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) and Matt Bieringer (Center Moriches). along with Siddeeq, won the 4x100-meter relay in 41.43 seconds, improving upon their NCAA provisional qualifying time.

The Red Dragons also had four runners provisionally qualify for nationals in the 10,000-meter run. Sophomore Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) finished second overall and was the top collegiate runner with a time of 30:32.85. Junior Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) finished fifth (30:40.06), junior Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) placed sixth (30:40.23) and sophomore Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished seventh (30:42.95). Former Cortland runner Andrew Cloke, last year's national runner-up, won the race in 30:15.17 as an unattached entry.

Sophomore Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was Cortland's other NCAA provisional qualifier. He finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a hand-held time of 9:19.8.

A number of Cortland competitors posted ECAC qualifying performances at the meet. Among those were junior Niko Viglione (Purdys/Somers), whose eighth-place time of 3:56.06 in the 1,500-meter invitational race missed NCAA status by just 0.26 seconds, and freshman Will Razzano (Riverhead), who finished sixth in the triple jump at 45' 5.25”, six inches shy of NCAA provisional standards. Razzano also finished 12th in the long jump with an ECAC distance of 21' 2”.
