ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland finished first in five events at the Ithaca Open, hosted by Ithaca College. The Red Dragons also posted eight second-place finishes at the mid-week meet.
Senior
Ashley Wirges (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) won the 200-meter dash with an ECAC-qualifying time of 26.30 seconds. Sophomore
Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) also reached ECAC standards with her winning high jump of 5' 3”, as did juniors
Sarah Kimball (Liverpool) and
Keri Laviska (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) in the pole vault, each at 11' 2”. Kimball was declared the winner and Laviska was second due to their number of misses.
Sophomore
Laurel Headwell (Fultonville/Fonda-Fultonville) won the shot put at 34' 5.5” and was second in the discus at 97' 10.75”. Freshman
Valerie Winberry (Bay Shore) competed in the same events, winning the discus (109' 8.75”) and placing second in the shot put (32' 1.5”).
Junior
Kara Cangemi (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) turned in a pair of second-place finishes with a high jump of 4' 11” and a triple jump of 33' 3.75”. Other Red Dragon runners-up included freshman Jessica Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) in the 400 meters (1:01.30), junior
