Cortland Repeats as SUNYAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Champion

Justin Wager won SUNYAC titles in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs

CORTLAND, N.Y. – SUNY Cortland claimed titles in eight events and easily outdistanced the competition to win its second straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The meet was held Friday and Saturday at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

 

Cortland won its 10th league title and its sixth in the last eight years with a score of 214 points. Brockport was second with 148 points, followed by Buffalo State (126.5), Geneseo (102), Plattsburgh (69.5), Oneonta (56), Fredonia (31) and Oswego (27).

 

Senior Amaan Siddeeq (Goshen) set new school and meet records and posted NCAA automatic qualifying times with his winning efforts in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. His 100-meter time of 10.37 seconds eclipsed the previous school and conference mark of 10.39 seconds set by Stefan Mascoll in 1998. His 200-meter time of 21.04 seconds bettered his own school record set earlier this spring at Bucknell.

 

Sophomore Justin Wager (Guilderland) also won two events with ECAC-qualifying times of 1:54.55 (1:54.16 in prelims) in the 800 meters and 3:56.60 in the 1,500 meters. Junior Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) won the 10,000 meters with a meet record and NCAA provisional time of 31:00.42 and sophomore Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA provisional time of 9:21.14.

 

Junior Jake Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) repeated as SUNYAC pole vault champion by clearing 14' 11.5”. Freshman Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) captured the 400-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 54.48 seconds (54.22 in prelims).

 

Senior J.J. Riese (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) finished second behind Siddeeq in the 200 meters with an NCAA provisional time of 21.59 seconds. Riese was also fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.90 seconds. Senior Matt Bieringer (Center Moriches) was the runner-up in the 400 meters in 48.91 seconds and third in the 200 meters (21.97) and sophomore Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) placed second behind Henry in the 10,000 meters in 31:07.02.

 

Sophomore Joe Keleher (Newfane) crossed the line second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.09) in addition to a fifth-place showing in the pole vault (13' 11.75”) and an eighth-place effort in the javelin (140' 4”). Freshman A.J. Allen (Fonda/Fonda-Fultonville) was second behind Bisceglia in the 400-meter hurdles (56.19, 55.84 in prelims) and freshman Will Razzano (Riverhead) was second in the triple jump (45' 0.25”) in addition to placing sixth in the long jump (20' 9.25”).

 

Cortland's 4x100-meter relay of senior Kevin Ma (Cornwall), sophomore Darnell Owens (South Fallsburg/Fallsburg), senior Stan Cadet (Hicksville) and senior Ronny Rodriguez (Harlem/John F. Kennedy) finished second in 42.89 seconds. Ma was also seventh in the 100-meter dash (12.12, 11.13 in prelims).

 

Junior Niko Viglione (Purdys/Somers) turned in a pair of top-four finishes with a third-place time of 1:55.95 (1:54.19 in prelims) in the 800 meters and a fourth-place time of 4:03.56 in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Drew Hilker (Ithaca) also placed in the top four twice with a third-place long jump (21' 9.5”) and a fourth-place high jump (6' 2.75”).

 

Sophomore Noah Rappahahn (Lebanon, CT/Lyman Memorial) finished fourth in the javelin (152' 8”) and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.70), while sophomore Will Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) was fifth in the high jump (6' 0.75”) and sixth in the triple jump (43' 10”).

 

Junior Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), freshman Reid McGrath (Pawling) and junior Steve McCaffrey (Pawling) finished fourth (31:15.60), sixth (16:09.57) and seventh (16:12.06), respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) placed fifth in the 10,000 meters (31:29.59), sophomore Trey Monaco (Buffalo/Frontier) was sixth in the high jump (6' 0.75”), freshman Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.06, 15.77 in prelims) and senior James Barracca (Center Moriches/Sachem North) was eighth in the 1,500 meters (4:08.08).
