Cortland Cruises Past Host Potsdam, 19-7

Beth Elmer tied her career high with three goals, all in the first half
POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior Beth Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) matched her career high with three goals and freshman Alyssa Hoover (Baldwin) scored the first three goals of her collegiate career as Cortland defeated Potsdam, 19-7, in a SUNYAC contest.

Elmer scored all three of her goals in the first half as the Red Dragons (5-5, 2-0) took a 10-3 lead at the break. Hoover scored Cortland's final goal of the first half and added two tallies in the second period.

Sophomore Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and senior Jen Pacifico (Sachem) each scored twice, junior Danielle Torre (Massapequa) recorded a goal and two assists and senior Rachel Cornwell (Fairport) and junior Meghan Gallagher (Long Beach) added one goal and one assist apiece. Sophomore Deanne Abell (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) made nine saves and allowed five goals over the first 49:58 and sophomore Sarah Farrell (Syracuse/Henninger) allowed two goals in the remaining 10:02.

Alisha Schaad led Potsdam (4-4, 1-2) with four goals and one assist. Molly Lehman-Lewis chipped in with a goal and an assist and Lindsay Myers recorded 10 saves.

Cortland took a 6-0 lead in the first 10:03, capped by Elmer's goal off a free position. The Bears scored three of the next five goals to close within 8-3 with 7:08 left in the half, but the Red Dragons registered the final two goals of the half and four of the first five goals in the first 10:38 of the second half.
