SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Sophomore
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) broke a school record and provisionally qualified for nationals with his winning effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the ECAC Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Springfield College Thursday and Friday.
Cortland finished second out of 53 schools represented at the meet with 60 points. Moravian College on the title with 88 points, followed by Cortland, Springfield (52), Brockport (41.5) and St. Lawrence (39) in the top five.
O'Brien's steeplechase time of 9:10.95 broke the previous school mark of 9:13.06 set by John Waldron in 1988.
Freshman
Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) placed second in the 400-meter run (48.64) and was third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.45), with the latter performance an NCAA provisional qualifier. Sophomore
Justin Wager (Guilderland) was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters (3:53.25) with an NCAA provisional time and sophomore
Noah Rappahahn (Lebanon, CT/Lyman Memorial) finished third in the decathlon (5,943 points).
Cortland claimed three of the top four spots in the 10,000 meters, all in NCAA provisional times. Sophomore
Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished second in 30:36.14, with junior
Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) in third (30:37.71) and junior
Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) in fourth (31:01.91).
Two other Red Dragons earned All-ECAC honors with their top-eight finishes. Freshman
Will Razzano (Riverhead) finished seventh in the triple jump (45' 2.5") and freshman
Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed eighth in the decathlon (5,570 points).
