ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Matt Bieringer (Center Moriches) won the 400-meter run and anchored Cortland's winning and school record-setting 4x400-meter relay at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Rochester.
Cortland placed fifth out of 15 teams at the meet with 85 points. Brockport won the title with 126.5 points, followed by St. Lawrence (115), RIT (100), Ithaca (95.5) and Cortland.
Bieringer won the 400-meter dash in 48.62 seconds and teamed with freshman Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk), senior J.J. Riese (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) and freshman Adam Groesbeck (Kirkville/East Syracuse-Minoa) to capture the 4x400-meter relay in 3:18.07. They broke the previous school record of 3:18.18 set in 1982 by Allan Kilfoyle, John McInerney, Kevin Hanney and Jim Thomas.
Senior Amaan Siddeeq (Goshen) won the 200-meter dash with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 21.21 seconds, slightly slower than his winning time at the SUNYAC Championships last week, and Bisceglia improved on his NCAA provisional time in the 400-meter hurdles with his winning time of 54.21 seconds.
Junior Jake Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) finished second in the pole vault (14' 11.5") and sophomore Noah Rappahahn (Lebanon, CT/Lyman Memorial) finished second in the decathlon with 5,961 points. The decathlon portion of the meet was conducted last Sunday and Monday at RPI in Troy.
Groesbeck placed fifth in the 400 meters (49.51), sophomore Joe Keleher (Newfane) was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.48) and sophomore Drew Hilker (Ithaca) finished fifth in the long jump (20' 7"). Sophomore Will Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) tied for fifth in the high jump (6' 2") and placed seventh in the triple jump (42' 2.75").
Four other Red Dragons contributed to the scoring with sixth-place finishes – senior Stan Cadet (Hicksville) in the 100-meter dash (11.26), freshman Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) in the decathlon (5,513 points), freshman A.J. Allen (Fonda/Fonda-Fultonville) in the 400-meter hurdles (55.68) and freshman Will Razzano (Riverhead) in the triple jump (43' 3").
