Chambers Hat Trick Leads #8 Cortland to Opening 7-0 Win

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Senior forward Kayla Chambers (Craryville/Taconic Hills) scored three goals as Cortland, ranked eighth nationally in Division III, opened the season with a 7-0 shutout victory at Houghton College.

Senior Katie Johnson (Elma/Iroquois Central) finished with a goal and three assists for the Red Dragons. Sophomore Brenda Semit (Holland Patent) added a goal and an assist, while senior Sam Spehler (Sag Harbor/Pierson) and freshman Danielle Hand (Whitney Point) scored one goal apiece. Senior Stacy Billings (Marathon) made one save for the shutout.

Cortland took a 3-0 lead in the first half on goals by Chambers, Spehler and Semit. Hand's first collegiate goal  opened the second half scoring, followed by two Chambers goals sandwiched around Johnson's tally.

Ashley Farr made five saves for Houghton (0-2).
