ONEONTA, N.Y. – Seniors
Brittany Brunetto (Fishkill/Beacon) and
Alanna Hollborn (Islip Terrace/East Islip) each turned in top-5 finishes to highlight Cortland's performances at the Oneonta Airfield Invitational. The Red Dragons, ranked 24th nationally, finished fourth out of nine teams at the meet despite resting some of their top runners.
Brunetto finished second out of 95 runners with a time of 17:05 over 4,500 meters. Plattsburgh's Jenny Schaffhouser won the race in 16:52. Hollborn crossed the finish line fifth in 17:26 and sophomore
Jessica Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) placed 16th in 17:58.
The next three Red Dragon finishers were within two seconds of each other. Sophomore
Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) placed 28th in 18:30, followed by senior
Liz Wolff (Syracuse/Henninger) in 30th (18:31) and sophomore
Kristin Vespa (Ossining) in 31st (18:32). Junior
Gina Smith (East Meadow) (35th, 18:42) and freshman
Katie Poleski (Ossining) (37th, 18:44) also finished in the top 40.
Hamilton won the team title with 56 points, followed by Plattsburgh (63), Mansfield (68), Cortland (80) and Oneonta (127) in the top five.
