CANTON, N.Y. – The nationally top-ranked Cortland men's cross country team finished second out of 16 schools at the Hoffmann Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence University. The Red Dragons claimed four of the top eight individual spots despite not running all of their top athletes. Cortland finished with 67 points, just three behind meet winner Geneseo's 64 points.
Senior
Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) placed second overall, covering the 8,000-meter course in 25:22. Hamilton College's Peter Kosgei, the 2007 NCAA Division III runner-up, won the race in 25:03.
Junior
Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) finished third in 25:24, senior
Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) placed fifth in 25:30 and junior
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) crossed the finish line eighth in 25:45.
Rounding out Cortland's top seven were senior
Niko Viglione (Purdys/Somers) in 61st place (27:23), freshman
Brendan Ward (Smithtown/Smithtown East) in 70th place (27:38) and junior
Jared Newell (Queensbury) in 89th place (28:00). In all, 250 runners competed in the race.
