TROY, N.Y. – Cortland finished first in four individual events and both relays to take top honors at the seven-team Kumpf Swimming and Diving Invitational, hosted by RPI. The Red Dragons claimed their third team title in the past five years with 542.5 points. The host Red Hawks were second with 488.5, followed by Ithaca (476), New Paltz (333), Clarkson (267), Oneonta (132) and Skidmore (74). Cortland's other recent championships at the meet came in 2005 and 2007.
Cortland also finished 6-0 in the dual-scoring portion of the meet and is now 10-2 on the season. The Red Dragons defeated Ithaca 134.5-108.5, RPI 139-104, Clarkson 168-69, Oneonta 179-61, New Paltz 179-58 and Skidmore 126-81.
Junior
Dan Evans (Hamburg) won both the 50-yard freestyle (21.54) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.13). He also anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:14.57). Senior

Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) and sophomore
Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie) swam the first three legs in that relay.
Hilker had the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.76) and junior
Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.88). Cortland also won the 400-medley relay as freshman
Judd Simon (Oneida), senior
Brett Poffenbarger (Owego/Owego Free Academy), Moessinger and Hilker were timed in 3:39.78.
Simon finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.52), Young was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.71) behind Evans and senior
David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury (CT)) was the runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:22.90). Joining Dow in the top four of the 1,000-yard freestyle were Moessinger in third place (10:24.97) and VanSickle in fourth place (10:27.62).
Simon also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.87). VanSickle was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.38), freshman
Dan Drew (Victor) finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.68) and Poffenbarger was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.87).
Other Cortland top-five finishes included fifth-place showings by Dow in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.67), freshman
Travis Burke (Massapequa) in three-meter diving (213.80 points) and Cortland's “B” 400-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Dan Salvatore (Clarence), freshman
Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport), senior
Roy Culkin (Holtsville/Sachem East) and sophomore
James McCabe (North Massapequa/Farmingdale), which finished in 3:25.62.
