CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Patrick Palmisano (Ann Arbor, MI/Bay State Breakers) netted a career-best four goals, all consecutive, as the Cortland men's hockey team defeated Fredonia St., 6-2, Saturday night at Alumni Arena in SUNYAC action. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 7-11-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the conference, while the Blue Devils fell to 4-12-4 and 2-7-3.

Sophomore Jarrett Gold (East Setauket/NY Bobcats) and senior Mike Maier (Rochester/Niagara University, Palmisano's linemates, collected a goal and seven assists between them, with Gold going for one goal and three assists and Maier matching his career high set in last night's game with four assists. Freshman Alex Arthur (Portland, ME/Boston Bulldogs) netted his first career goal and five players each recorded one assist. Freshman goalie Mike Reilly (New York/Bismarck Bobcats) stopped 31 shots.

Senior Jeff Sylvester (Windsor, ON/Stratford Jr. B) and freshman Bryan Ross (Livonia, MI/Alpena Jr. A) scored one goal apiece for the Blue Devils and four other players registered one assist each. Junior Pat Street (Annapolis, MD/The Gunnery School) started in goal and made 15 saves before giving way to freshman Kody Van Rentergem (Leduc, AB/Brooks Jr. A), who stopped 19 shots.

Fredonia St. grabbed the lead just two minutes, 24 seconds into the game when Ross knocked a loose puck past Reilly. Cortland closed the first period on goals from Gold on a one-timer on the power play at 4:04 and Palmisano's first of the night on a deflection with a man advantage at 11:23. Palmisano made it a 3-1 game at 6:51 of the second and collected his hat trick with a rebound goal at 16:53. He scored his fourth straight at 5:04 of the third period when he deflected senior Mike Egan's (Smithtown/NY Apple Core) shot from the right point. Arthur also scored on a deflection just 42 seconds later, and Sylvester completed the scoring when his point shot from the right caromed off a Cortland defender and past Reilly on the power play at 7:20.
