LOCK HAVEN, PA. - Competing as the only Division III school, the nationally third-ranked Cortland men's cross country team placed second out of 11 teams at the Penn State National on Friday at Lock Haven University. The meet was initially announced as canceled due to snow in State College, Pa., but was instead moved at the last minute to Lock Haven.
Cortland scored 70 points and trailed just Division I Cornell, which won the meet with 48 points. Yale (77 points), Lock Haven (94 points) and Bucknell (124 points) rounded out the top five.
The Red Dragons had three top-20 finishers at the meet. Senior
Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) was Cortland's top runner, finishing sixth overall out of 130 competitors. He covered the 8,000-meter course in 25:15 and finished just 17 seconds behind race winner Ryan Blood, who was an individual entry. Freshman
Sean Curry (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) placed seventh in 25:27, while senior
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished 17th in 25:47.
