Cortland 16th in Brown Division of Lehigh Paul Short Run

Alyson Dalton finished 26th out of 337 runners to lead the Red Dragons
BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Cortland women's cross country team finished in 16th place out of 39 schools in the Brown Division of the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University. The Red Dragons, ranked 35th nationally in Division III, finished with 488 points.

Division II schools Kutztown and Bloomsburg finished first and second with 111 and 215 points, respectively, followed by nationally 28th-ranked Division III Dickinson with 277 points. Cortland defeated seven of the 13 Division I schools in the race, including Pittsburgh, Temple, St. John's, Manhattan and Hofstra.

Sophomore Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) placed 26th in a 337-runner field. She completed the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 27 seconds. Freshman Heather Clancy (Syracuse/Westhill) finished 95th (23:30), with senior Sarah Lazarus (South New Berlin/Unadilla Valley) close behind in 104th place (23:35).

Freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) crossed the line 129th (23:48) and junior Erin Keaveney (West Hempstead/Kellenberg Memorial) finished 144th (23:55). Rounding out Cortland's entries were freshman Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) in 203rd place (24:28) and junior Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira/Thomas A. Edison) in 264th place (25:16).

Of Cortland's five runners in the women's JV race, freshman Kait Stordeur (Lynbook/Kellenberg Memorial) turned in the best finish with a 170th-place time of 25:28. Freshman Kelsey Peek (Deerfield/Whitesboro) was 203rd in 26:10.

Cortland will host the first-ever Dr. Jack Daniels Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 10. The women's race will start at 11 a.m. and the men's race is at noon. Daniels coached Cortland's men's team for 17 seasons in a 19-year span from 1986-2004 and the women's team for 16 years in an 18-year span from 1987-2004. He is scheduled to return to campus on Oct. 30 when Cortland celebrates its seven NCAA Div. III women's championship teams that he coached (1989, 90, 92, 93, 94, 95, 97).
