CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland opened its 2009-10 season with a first-place finish at the three-team Cortland Sprint Relays. The Red Dragons scored 439 points, followed by Fredonia with 377 and Clarkson with 228.

Krista Bergquist (West Islip) swam on five of Cortland's eight winning relays. Senior
Taylor Houseman (Rushford/Wellsville) and senior
Kristin Barnoski (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) were each on four winning entries, and junior
Liz Neddo (Syracuse/Fowler) swam on three winning relays (these totals do not include the 8x25-yard freestyle relay).
Bergquist, Houseman, Neddo and Barnoski won both the 400-yard medley relay (4:12.22) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.52). Bergquist combined with senior
Samantha Buckley (Holbrook/Sachem North) and freshman
Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) to win the 300-yard backstroke relay (3:08.76), while sophomore
Michelle Seeger (Oneonta), Neddo and Bergquist won the 300-yard butterfly relay (3:10.14). Bergquist's other win came in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:45.34) along with Barnoski, senior
Katie Molzan (Plattsburgh/Peru) and freshman
Molly Miller (Eden).
Houseman, junior
Rachel Phillips (Eden) and sophomore
Laura Bohneberg (Lockport) won both the 300-yard breaststroke relay (3:37.35) and the 300-yard medley relay (official time not available). Cortland also earned a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as freshman
Kelsey Roe (Auburn), Molzan, Barnoski and Seeger were clocked in 3:52.64.
