Jarrett Gold's shorthanded goal gave Cortland a 2-1 lead in the first period
BUFFALO, N.Y. – D'Arcy Thomas and Joel Sheppard each scored twice as Buffalo State outscored Cortland, 6-5, in a SUNYAC contest. The Bengals are now 1-2-1 overall and Cortland is 2-1. Both teams are 1-1 in league play.

Cortland's goals came off the sticks of five different players. Sophomore Ryan Durocher (Canton/Boston Bulldogs), freshman Matt Tardif (Forest Hill, MD/Syracuse Stars) and freshman Chris Kaleta (Angola/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) tallied one goal each.

Junior Dan Jewell (Medford/National Sports Academy) started in goal for the Red Dragons and made five saves in the first period. Sophomore Brittan Kuhlman (Elkhorn, NE/Winnipeg Saints) recorded 12 saves over the final two periods.

Cortland led 1-0 on a Durocher goal, assisted by senior Gerard Heinz (Kings Park/NY Apple Core Jr. A), less than five minutes into the game. Thomas tied the game at the 8:46 mark of the period, but Gold scored shorthanded at 15:08, set up by Palmisano and Tim Lloyd (Oswego/Oswego HS), to give the Red Dragons their last lead of the night.

Klin tied the game at 2-2 with only one second left in the first period, and Sheppard tallied 1:16 into the second period to put the Bengals ahead 3-2. Tardif tied the game on his first collegiate goal 5:39 into the second on a power play. Jake Saville (Bellingham, WA/Marquette Rangers) and Mike Lysyj (Hillsborough, NJ/South Shore Kings) notched assists on the play.

A Thomas power play goal with 7:23 left in the second gave Buffalo State the lead for good. Labreche also scored on a power play chance two minutes into the third period to extend the lead to 5-3.

Cortland converted on an extra-man chance 3:22 later as Palmisano scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Justin Porpora (Hauppauge/NY Bobcats) and Gold. The Bengals' lead stayed at one goal for the next nine minutes before Sheppard scored with 5:37 left. Cortland made a final push as Kaleta scored the Red Dragons' third power play goal of the evening with 2:10 remaining. Greg Haney (Marcellus/National Sports Academy) and Sean Streicher (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Marian University) assisted on the goal. The Red Dragons were only able to pull Kuhlman from the net for nine seconds and couldn't net the tying goal.
