CORTLAND, N.Y. - Sophomore Ryan Markell (Columbus, OH/Ohio St.) registered his first career hat trick to lead the Cortland men's hockey team to a 5-2 win versus Hobart College Sunday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 4-5 with the victory, while the Statesmen fell to 3-5-2.

Senior Patrick Palmisano (Ann Arbor, MI/Bay State Breakers) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland, junior Jarrett Gold (East Setauket/NY Bobcats) netted a power-play goal and senior Gerard Heinz (Kings Park/NY Apple Core), sophomore Jake Saville (Bellingham, WA/Marquette Rangers) and freshman Mike Lysyj (Hillsborough, NJ/South Shore Kings) each collected two assists. Sophomore goalie Brittan Kuhlman (Elkhorn, NE/Winnipeg Saints) made 32 saves to earn his first win as a Red Dragon.

Junior Matthew Wallace (Skaneateles/Syracuse Stars) had a goal and an assist to lead Hobart. Freshman Harry Radovich (Rumson, NJ/Westminster) scored a goal, junior Patrick Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor/NY Bobcats) chipped in with two assists and freshman Chris Cannizzaro (Cazenovia) added an assist. Freshman goalie Martin Ausserhofer (Brunico, Italy/New Jersey Rockets) stopped 26 shots.

Radovich gave the Statesmen a 1-0 lead at four minutes, 36 seconds of the first period when he finished off a 3-on-1. Palmisano tied the game at 14:56 when he tucked the puck in the open side of the net on the power play. Wallace made it 2-1 Hobart with a wrist shot through traffic from the right face-off circle at 5:09 of the second period. Markell scored his first of the night on a wrist shot at 12:53 of the second after a long rush up ice to even the score at 2-2.

Cortland took the lead at 9:14 of the third period when Markell scored on a slap shot from the left circle. Two and a half minutes later, Gold converted a 2-on-1 with the man advantage to put the Red Dragons ahead 4-2. With 1:56 remaining in the game, Hobart pulled Ausserhofer for an extra skater but Markell finished off his hat trick into the open net just 14 seconds later.
