Red Dragons Drop Dual Meet at Ithaca; Bergquist Wins 100 Backstroke

Abigail MacDonald finished second in both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cortland women's swimming and diving team dropped a 164-79 dual-meet decision at Ithaca College and is now 1-2 on the season. Senior Krista Bergquist (West Islip) led the Red Dragons with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.89) and a second-place showing in the 50-yard freestyle (25.56).

Senior Samantha Buckley (Holbrook/Sachem North) and freshman Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) each finished second in two events. Buckley was runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:17.46) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.28), while MacDonald was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.22) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.96). MacDonald finished about three quarters of a second behind the winner in the 100 fly.

Senior Kristin Barnoski (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.82), and also anchored Cortland's runner-up 200-yard freestyle relay team that lost by only four hundredths of a second. Bergquist, senior Katie Molzan (Plattsburgh/Peru) and sophomore Michelle Seeger (Oneonta) were also on that relay, which finished in 1:43.22.
