Cortland Finishes in Fourth Place at ECAC Championships

Rachel Phillips finished in the top 10 in four different events
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Cortland finished in fourth place out of 13 teams at the three-day ECAC Div. III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Red Dragons were one of four SUNYAC schools to finish in the top five. Geneseo won with 1,737 points, followed by Stevens Institute (N.J.) (1,643), New Paltz (1,143), Cortland (1,016) and Oneonta (581).

Senior Lauryn Kaznowski (Kingston) finished second in three-meter diving (310.65 points) and third in one-meter diving (337.10 points). Senior Liz Wasik (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) finished fifth on both boards (305.85 points for one-meter and 273.35 points on three-meter).

Senior Taylor Houseman (Rushford/Wellsville) recorded Cortland's best swimming finish with a third-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.22). She also finished seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.21) and 14th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.78).

Junior Rachel Phillips (Eden) placed in the top 10 in four events. She was ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.13), tied for ninth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.69), and finished 10th in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.97) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.82).

Senior Kristin Barnoski (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) tied for fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.63), was 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.34) and finished 16th in the 100-yard freestyle (57.58). Junior Liz Neddo (Syracuse/Fowler) turned in a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.87), tied for ninth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.69) and finished 15th in the 400-yard individual medley (5:01.96).

Freshman Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) and senior Samantha Buckley (Holbrook/Sachem North) each posted four top-16 finishes, including two in the top 10. MacDonald was seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.92) and ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.23). She also finished 12th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:57.22) and 15th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.01). Buckley was eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:33.63), 10th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:56.51), 11th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.69) and 15th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.98).

Sophomore Laura Bohneberg (Lockport) finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.82) and 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.36). Freshman Jessica Evans (Hamburg) was 11th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.34).

Sophomore Michelle Seeger (Oneonta) and senior Katie Molzan (Plattsburgh/Peru) registered three top-16 finishes each. Seeger was 13th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.04), tied for 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (57.53) and 15th in the 50-yard freestyle (26.28). Molzan tied with Seeger for 14th place in the 100-yard freestyle and also placed 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.64) and 16th in the 50-yard freestyle (26.29).

Freshman Katherine Harris (Long Beach) finished 13th in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.41) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.96). Freshman Kelsey Roe (Auburn) was 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.65) and freshman Molly Miller (Eden) finished 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:45.71).

Cortland finished in fourth place in all five relays at the championship – the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.87), 200-yard medley relay (1:52.98), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:50.99), 400-yard medley relay (4:11.48) and 800-yard freestyle relay (8:29.96).

Barnoski was on four of the first four of those relays. Molzan was on all three of the freestyle relays, Seeger was on the 200 Free, 200 Medley and 400 Free relays, and senior Krista Bergquist (West Islip) swam on the 200 Free, 200 Medley and 400 Medley teams. Houseman was on both medley relays, Neddo swam on the 400 Medley and 800 Free relays and Buckley was part of the 400 Free and 800 Free relays. MacDonald anchored the 800 Free relay.
