CORTLAND, N.Y. - Will Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) scored 15 points to lead five Cortland double-figure scorers as the Red Dragons defeated SUNYAC co-leader Oneonta, 72-64, at Corey Gymnasium. Coston also finished with game-highs of six assists and five steals for Cortland (11-10, 8-4 SUNYAC).

Paul Oliver (Phoenix), Juan Miolan (Troy) and Ron Evans (New Hartford) each finished with 12 points for Cortland, with Oliver adding a team-high eight rebounds. Mike Lewis (Brewerton/Central Square) tallied 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Oneonta (14-8, 9-4) was led by Maurice Lane's (Bakersfield, CA/West) 17 points and four assists. Michael Grimes (Albany/CCHS) and Brian Beckford (Brooklyn/Christ the King) each finished with 11 points and eight rebounds and Shane Gillette (Hurley/Kingston) registered 10 points and four assists.

The teams were tied 28-28 at halftime and another nine times in the second half, the last at 54-54 on an Oliver layup with 6:50 left. Oliver added a free throw to complete the three-point play and Cortland never trailed again.

Oneonta, however, was still within two points at 61-59 after a Lane layup with 3:05 remaining. Evans answered with a jumper for Cortland at the 2:44 mark and, following an Oneonta turnover, Chris Milke (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) hit a short jumper off an Evans feed with 1:59 left to put the hosts up 65-59.

Milke added a layup with 1:06 left to extend the lead to eight. Cortland made 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute to put the game away. Milke finished with six points and three blocked shots.
