Drew Hilker placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and led off Cortland's school record-setting 800-yard freestyle relay
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cortland's 800-yard freestyle relay team shattered a school record that stood for 28 years and junior
Dan Evans (Hamburg) captured his second individual league title and broke his second school record in as many days during the second round of competition at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Cortland remained in second place after the second day with 405 points. Geneseo leads the nine-team field with 618 points, followed by Cortland, New Paltz (355) and Fredonia (251).

Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman), junior
Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) and Evans finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay with an NCAA “B cut” time of 6:56.75. The former school record of 6:59.79 was set in 1981 by Steve Hoff, Jan Mitchell, Bob Kalin and Jim Swartz.
Evans, coming off a win Thursday in the 50-yard freestyle, was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle Friday in 1:41.29, also an NCAA “B cut.” He broke the previous mark of 1:42.16 set by Ryan Kendrick in 1994.
Three Red Dragons earned top-eight finishes in the 100-yard butterfly. Hilker finished second in 52.05 seconds (51.56), followed by Moessinger in third place (52.24) and freshman
Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport) in seventh place (53.64, 53.44 in prelims). The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore

Brett Poffenbarger (Owego/Owego Free Academy), Moessinger and sophomore
Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie Central) placed third in 1:36.45.
Poffenbarger touched the wall fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.13), VanSickle was fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.56, 1:45.55 in prelims) and senior
H. Austin Rhoads (Orchard Park) placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.19). In addition, senior
David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury (CT)) finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:21.03) and Young was seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (54.52).
The competition concludes Saturday at the Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College.
