Cortland Wins Third Straight SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Title

GENEVA, N.Y. – Cortland won its third straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Indoor Track and Field title and seventh overall at the league championship meet, conducted at Hobart and William Smith College.

The top five schools at the eight-team meet finished within 30 points of each other. Cortland won the crown with 117 points, followed by Geneseo (104.5), Buffalo State (95.5), Oneonta (91) and Brockport (88.5). Rounding out the field were Fredonia (52.5), Plattsburgh (50) and Oswego (24). Cortland head coach Steve Patrick was named the SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year following the meet.

Cortland finished first in five events and earned three second-place results. Senior Jake Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) highlighted the Red Dragons' championship list by winning his fourth straight league title in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional height of 15' 4.25”.

Junior Caleb Olsen (Bellmore/J.F.K. Bellmore) won the 800 meters in 1:56.56, an ECAC-qualifying time, and was also part of the winning distance medley relay team (10:38.95) that also featured freshman Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville), junior Eric Graber (Lansingburgh) and sophomore Andrew Brusso (Elmira/Elmira Southside). Olsen had previously been part of Cortland's winning DMR at the 2007 SUNYAC Indoor Championships.

Senior Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) successfully defended his league title in the 5,000-meter run with an ECAC time of 15:05.42. He won last year's race in 15:07.18. Junior Joe Keleher (Newfane) won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.81 seconds and was third in the pole vault at 14' 4.5”, both ECAC qualifiers.

Freshman Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) completed the Red Dragons' top-three sweep in the pole vault with a second-place height of 14' 10.25”, an ECAC qualifier. Sophomore Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) finished second in the triple jump (ECAC 45' 3.75”) and junior Drew Hilker (Ithaca) was the runner-up in the long jump at 21' 6.75”. Hilker also tied for fifth place in the high jump at 6' 1.5”. He finished in a five-way tie for third in the event, but officially tied for fifth due to number of misses.

Junior Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished third in the 5,000 meters with an ECAC time of 15:17.31 and junior Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) qualified for ECACs with a third-place time of 8:50.74 in the 3,000 meters. Senior Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished sixth in the 5,000 meters (15:29.38).

Sophomore Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.94, 7.92 prelims), with junior Durrell Reed (Syracuse/Corcoran) finishing in fourth place (8.03, 8.02 prelims).

Pericozzi recorded three top-seven finishes at the meet. In addition to his second-place pole vault, he finished seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (8.26) and seventh in the long jump (21' 0”). Also scoring points were junior Todd Plumer (Beacon) with a seventh-place weight throw of 44' 8.25” and the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex), junior Joe Hoffmann (Medford/Patchogue-Medford), freshman Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and freshman Joe Babbino (Holtsville/Sachem East), which placed seventh in 3:38.29.
