PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Juniors
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and
Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in their events during Thursday's competition at The Penn Relays.
O'Brien broke his own school record with his first-place time of 9:07.50 in the college division of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He eclipsed his previous school mark of 9:08.86, set at last year's NCAA Championships, and automatically qualified for this year's national meet by a tenth of a second. O'Brien beat 16 other runners, including runner-up Pat Dupont of Syracuse by nine hundredths of a second.
DuBois finished 10th out of 35 runners in the collegiate 10,000-meter run in 30:17.81. He broke the NCAA automatic qualifying barrier by 2.19 seconds. Senior
Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) provisionally qualified for nationals with his 12th-place time of 30:29.28.
Cortland only sent men's competitors to the Penn Relays on Thursday. The Red Dragons return to action on both the men's and women's sides this Sunday at the Cornell Big Red Invitational.
