Five Red Dragons Wins Individual SUNYAC Titles; Team Places Second

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Five Red Dragons won individual conference titles as Cortland finished in second place out of eight schools at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Cortland finished with 154.5 points, trailing only Geneseo's 171 points. Buffalo State was third with 122 points, followed by Brockport (120), Oneonta (95), Fredonia (63), Plattsburgh (29.5) and Oswego (22).

Senior Jake Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) won his third consecutive SUNYAC outdoor pole vault title with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 15' 5”. Junior Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) repeated as league champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA provisional time of 9:20.07.

Junior Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) won the 5,000-meter run in 14:53.96, an ECAC championship qualifying time. Sophomore Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) captured top honors in the triple jump with an ECAC distance of 46' 6.25” and freshman Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) won the long jump at 21' 6”.

Pericozzi also took second place in the pole vault at 14' 11” and was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.14). His 18 field points scored at the meet (long jump and pole vault) were the highest total at the meet and he was named the SUNYAC Men's Field Athlete of the Meet. Junior Joe Keleher (Newfane) placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.72 seconds (ECAC qualifying 15.53 in prelims) and sophomore Phill Wiltshire (Apalachin/Vestal) was second in the 400-meter hurdles with an ECAC time of 54.74.

Cortland qualified for ECACs in four other events. Senior Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was third in the 5,000 meters (15:09.41), junior Justin Wager (Guilderland) placed third in the 1,500 meters (3:58.08), sophomore Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished third in the 400-meter dash (49.47) and the 4x100-meter relay of junior Darnell Owens (Fallsburg), sophomore Matt McDougle (Buffalo/Kenmore West), freshman Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and sophomore Sa-id Shakir (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) placed third in 43.56 seconds.

Sophomore Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed third in the javelin (151' 2”), followed by junior Erik Maggs (New Baltimore/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) in fourth place (150' 7”). Junior Drew Hilker (Ithaca) finished fourth in the high jump (6' 1.5”) and fifth in the long jump (21' 1.25”), McDougle was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.40) and sophomore Tony Nguyen (Gates/Gates-Chili) tied for fourth in the pole vault (12' 5.5”).

McManus finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.10) and senior Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) was fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:22.21). Freshman Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville) was the sixth-place finisher in the 800 meters (1:58.05, 1:55.69 in prelims), and the 4x400-meter relay team of Bisceglia, freshman Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex), junior Eric Graber (Lansingburgh) and Wiltshire placed sixth (3:26.57).

Cortland also scored points at the meet with six other performances. Junior Caleb Olsen (Bellmore/J.F.K. Bellmore) finished seventh in the 800 meters (1:59.44, 1:57.49 in prelims), junior Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished seventh in the 10,000 meters (33:31.83), Wilson was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.17) and freshman Roman Miranda (Pawling) placed seventh in the pole vault (12' 5.5”). Junior Durrell Reed (Syracuse/Corcoran) finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.22) and senior Kevin Olejar (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:01.99).
