OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Cortland women's cross country team, ranked 17th nationally in Division III, opened up its season with a third-place finish at the Oswego Laker Invitational Saturday. The Red Dragons finished with 74 points, trailing Ithaca with 15 points and Alfred University with 69 points.
Cortland's top finisher was freshman
Heather Clancy (Syracuse/Westhill), who covered the 4,500-meter course in 18:12 for a 14th-place finish. Ithaca College's Jennifer Randall won the race in 17:38. Other runners to score for the Red Dragons were junior
Erin Keaveney (West Hempstead/Kellenberg Memorial), 18th in 18:30, freshman
Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy), 21st in 18:44, senior
Sarah Lazarus (South New Berlin/Unadilla Valley), 26th in 19:04 and freshman
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport), 27th also in 19:04.
Junior
Sara Pick (Westmoreland) finished 30th in 19:11, while sophomore
Kelly McNicholas (West Islip) rounded out Cortland's top-seven runners with a 38th-place finish in 20:18. A total of seven teams and 70 runners competed in the event.
