SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder
Taylor Teal (Bethlehem) headed in a corner kick with 8:53 remaining to give Cortland a 1-0 victory over RPI during the second day of the Union College Invitational. The Red Dragons earned the tournament title with a 2-0 record in the predetermined schedule – they defeated Union 1-0 in overtime on Saturday.
Cortland's 5-0 record this fall is the best start for the program since the 1993 squad opened with six straight wins.
Senior defender
Ashley Mewhorter (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) set up Teal's second goal of the season with her corner kick from the left side to the back post. Cortland held a slight 10-9 advantage in shots and earned 11 corner kicks, eight in the second half, to just three for the Engineers (2-2-1).
Junior goalie
Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) recorded two saves for her second consecutive shutout. RPI goalie Melissa Pinsonneault made three saves.
Cortland plays its first home game of the season on Wednesday at 4 p.m. versus Hamilton College.
