CLINTON, N.Y. – Sophomore forward
Danielle Hand (Whitney Point) scored two first-half goals to help Cortland overcome an early deficit and the nationally sixth-ranked Red Dragons stayed unbeaten with a 4-1 victory at Hamilton College.
Senior midfielder
Lauren Eichenberger (Suffern) and freshman forward
Sara Woodward (Pine Plains) added second-half goals for Cortland (5-0). Junior
Ashley Hughes (Selden/Comsewogue) made two saves. Cortland outshot Hamilton 21-8, including a 15-0 margin in the second half after the hosts held an 8-6 edge at halftime.
Courtney DeMaria made five saves for Hamilton, which suffered its first loss after opening the season 2-0.
The Continentals lit the scoreboard when Carly Andrascik tallied 9:01 into the game. Hughes made an initial save on a shot by Amy Allen, but Andrascik cleaned up the rebound and scored her first goal of the season.
Cortland tied the game with 16:55 left in the half when Hand scored off a penalty corner play, assisted by junior midfielder
Brenda Semit (Holland Patent). Hand struck again less than four minutes later when she knocked in a rebound of her own shot to give the Red Dragons the lead. Hand leads Cortland with five goals this season.
Eichenberger added an insurance goal 4:23 into the second half when she dribbled the ball into the circle and blasted home a long shot. Woodward completed the scoring with 8:03 remaining. Senior midfielder
