Moessinger, Evans Help Cortland Edge Oswego, 154-146

Justin Nelson won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.71 seconds
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland won seven individual events, including two each by seniors Jeff Moessinger (Elma/Iroquois) and Dan Evans (Hamburg), in a 154-146 dual-meet victory over visiting Oswego. The Red Dragons improved to 5-2 on the season.

Moessinger captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.87) and 100-yard butterfly (54.75), while Evans won the 50-yard freestyle (21.49) and 100-yard freestyle (47.84).

Sophomore Dan Drew (Farmington/Victor) was the 200-yard backstroke winner in 2:07.22 and freshman Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/home schooled) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.51). Freshman Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) also earned a win with his time of 57.71 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Cortland also touched the wall first in the 400-yard medley relay as Drew, sophomore Daniel Salvatore (Clarence), Evans and senior Matt Young (Schoharie) were clocked in 3:44.08.

Four Red Dragons posted a pair of runner-up finishes. Sophomore Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:14.23) and 100-yard butterfly (56.74) and senior Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.44) and 500-yard freestyle (5:09.96). Junior Dan Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.63) and 200-yard individual medley (2:10.48), while freshman Kyle Kaznowski (Kingston) was runner-up in 1-meter diving (265.30 points) and 3-meter diving (260.25 points).

Other Cortland second-place finishers were freshman Dan MacQuarrie (Vestal) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.21), Salvatore in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.33), and the 200-yard freestyle relay of junior James McCabe (North Massapequa/Farmingdale), junior Luis Welch (Avon), VanSickle and Evans (1:31.56).
