SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior
Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) broke his own school record with his winning time in the 500-meter run during Cortland's participation at the Syracuse University Welcome Back Meet. Bisceglia's 500-meter time of 1:04.28 eclipsed his previous school-record time of 1:06.10 set last season.
Bisceglia was one of three Red Dragons to post ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying marks at the meet. Sophomore
Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) finished second in the pole vault at 4.60 meters (15' 1”) and freshman
Dash Ellis (Tomkins Cove/North Rockland) was second in the triple jump at 13.84 meters (45' 5”).
Senior
Eric Stermer (Chenango Forks) finished third in the 3,000-meter run in 8:50.41, missing ECAC qualifying standards by less than half a second. Sophomore
Steve Manos (Elmira/Southside) cleared 1.85 meters (6' 0.75”) to finish third in the high jump.
Freshman
P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) turned in a fourth-place height of 1.80 meters (5' 10.75”) in the high jump and a sixth-place distance of 12.94 meters (42' 5.5”) in the triple jump. Freshman
Josh Daves (Huntington) was fourth in the long jump at 6.30 meters (20' 8”).
Four Red Dragons finished in fifth place in their events – senior
Joe Keleher (Newfane) in the pole vault (4.35 meters – 14' 3.25”), senior
Durrell Reed (Syracuse/Corcoran) in the 55-meter hurdles (8.26), freshman
Eric Banks (Westbury) in the 500 meters (1:08.26) and freshman
Mike Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) in the triple jump (13.05 meters – 42' 9.75”).
Other top-six finishers included senior
Darnell Owens (Fallsburg), who was sixth in the 55-meter dash (6.74), and sophomore
Mike McQuillan (New City/Clarkstown South), who placed sixth in the shot put (12.73 meters – 41' 9.25”).
