SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) finished second in the 55-meter hurdles to lead Cortland's competitors at the Syracuse University Welcome Back Meet.

Darling's runner-up time of 8.91 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles is an ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying time. Cortland also received ECAC-qualifying efforts from senior Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) and sophomore Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), who finished fourth (10:40.44) and fifth (10:42.60), respectively, in the 3,000 meters, and freshman Nikki Schafer, who finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.09 seconds (9.01 in prelims).

Schafer was also one of three Red Dragons to turn in a third-place finish with her height of 1.50 meters (4' 11”) in the high jump. Freshman Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) was third in the pole vault at 3.10 meters (10' 2”) and freshman Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) placed third in the long jump at 4.98 meters (16' 4.25”).

Freshman Joy'a Green (Syracuse/Corcoran) finished fourth in the triple jump at 10.33 meters (33' 10.75”), followed by Hotchkiss in fifth place at 10.24 meters (33' 7.25”). Freshman Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) was fifth in the long jump at 4.92 meters (16' 1.75”), sophomore Jenna Evarts (West Islip) finshed sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.88 seconds and freshman Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 10.44 meters (34' 3”).

Cortland also claimed two of the top five spots in the 4x400-meter relay. Sophomore Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland), senior Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), Schafer and freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) finished fourth in 4:20.96. Sophomore Valerie Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus), junior Barbara Green (Levittown/Division Avenue), sophomore Brenna Filipello (Delmar/Bethlehem) and Darling crossed the finish line fifth in 4:24.32.
