MacDonald and Houseman Multiple Winners as Cortland Defeats New Paltz, 152-130

Abigail MacDonald recorded the fastest time in two butterfly races and one backstroke race
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) finished first in three events and senior Taylor Houseman (Rushford/Wellsville) won two races as Cortland defeated New Paltz, 152-130, in a dual meet at Holsten Pool. The Red Dragons now have a 5-3 dual record entering their competition Saturday at the RPI Invitational.

MacDonald won the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.26) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.48). She also turned in the best time as an exhibition entry in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.22). Houseman won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.59) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.57).

Senior Krista Bergquist (West Islip) captured the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.57) and was second as an exhibition entry in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.65) behind MacDonald. Senior Kristin Barnoski (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) won the 50-yard freestyle (25.44) and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.29).

Senior Lauryn Kaznowski (Kingston) won one-meter diving (382.45 points) and was second in three-meter diving (286.55 points), while senior Liz Wasik (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) won on the three-meter board (297.25 points) and was second on the one-meter board (343.55 points).

The combination of Bergquist, Houseman, sophomore Michelle Seeger (Oneonta) and Barnoski won the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.71), while freshman Katherine Harris (Long Beach), senior Katie Molzan (Plattsburgh/Peru), Seeger and Barnoski finished second as an exhibition entry in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:45.39).

Cortland runners-up also included senior Samantha Buckley (Holbrook/Sachem North) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.07), junior Rachel Phillips (Eden) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.56) and sophomore Laura Bohneberg (Lockport) as an exhibition entry in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.97).
