BETHLEHEM, PA. – The SUNY Cortland men's cross country team finished in 23rd place out of 40 schools, including almost 20 Div. I institutions, in the Brown Division of the Lehigh University Paul Short Run. The Red Dragons finished with 581 points, 15 behind both Niagara University and C.W. Post. Princeton won the race with 36 points, followed by Colgate (169) and New Hampshire (181).
Freshman
Casey Austin (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) was Cortland's top performer with a 93rd place time of 26:48 over 8,000 meters. There were 357 runners in the race. Sophomore
Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished 105th in 26:55 and freshman
Ryan Perry (Amherst/Williamsville North) was 124th in 27:04.
Also scoring for the Red Dragons were senior
Brendan Brethel (Lynbrook) in 128th place (27:05) and senior
Andrew Brusso (Elmira/Southside) in 176th place (27:30), while freshman
Kyle Martin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) (181st, 27:33) and junior
Jon Tuttle (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) (183rd, 27:34) displaced other teams' scoring runners. Sophomore
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) crossed the line 201st (27:43) and freshman
Tim Lee (West Babylon) placed 222nd (27:56).
In the 8,000-meter open race, sophomore
Brent Pavlick (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished 141st in 27:22, junior
Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville) was 157th in 27:29 and senior
Nick Jeror (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished 207th in 28:04. Also in that race, junior
Sean Twomey (Cornwall) was 271st (29:10) and freshman
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) finished 292nd (29:32) out of 357 runners.
