Alyson Dalton's winning time of 22:12 was 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher
WATERFORD, CONN. – Junior
Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) finished in first place in a field of 199 runners at the Connecticut College Women's Cross Country Invitational. The event was held at the Harkness Memorial State Park.
Dalton covered the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 12 seconds – 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Alina Gatowski of MIT. Dalton's finish helped the nationally 21st-ranked Red Dragons place second out of 18 schools in the final team standings. Tufts University won with 53 points, followed closely by Cortland's 60 points. MIT (93), The College of New Jersey (132) and Fairfield (154) rounded out the top five.
Cortland's top seven runners all placed in the top 30. Senior
Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira/Thomas A. Edison) finished fifth in 23:09 and senior
Kristin Vespa (Ossining) was 14th in 23:23. Freshmen
Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) and freshman
Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) placed 19th (23:35) and 21st (23:36), respectively, while sophomore
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) was 22nd (23:37) and junior
Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished 28th (23:49).
Four additional Red Dragons crossed the finish line among the top 70 runners. Senior
Erin Keaveney (West Hempstead/Kellenberg Memorial) finished 46th (24:19) and sophomore
Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) was 58th (24:33). Freshman
Ally Borriello (Montgomery/Valley Central) placed 61st (24:38) and freshman
Colleen Fischman (Buffalo/Hamburg) was 70th (24:45).
