Autera and Pitcher Account for Five Scores in 42-6 Win at Morrisville

Dan Pitcher has thrown at least one TD pass in nine straight games, tying a school record
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Justin Autera (Mahopac) rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half, and quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) completed 17-of-24 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns as Cortland defeated host Morrisville State, 42-6, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.

Sophomore wide receiver Kadeem Miller (Niskayuna) and senior defensive lineman Matt Kaufmann (Lynbrook/Kellenberg Memorial), entered offensively as an eligible receiver, each caught touchdown passes for the Red Dragons (6-1, 6-1 NJAC). Cortland's other score came on a 1-yard TD run by junior Dorian Myles (Lackawanna/Hamburg).

Morrisville (1-6, 1-5 NJAC) scored its points on a pair of Juan Rios field goals – a 22-yarder late in the first quarter and a 21-yarder in the third quarter.

Autera has scored 17 touchdowns, 14 rushing, through Cortland's first seven games. He staked Cortland to a quick 7-0 lead when he raced 64 yards down the left sideline on the game's first play from scrimmage. His 28-yard scoring run with 4:48 left in the first quarter upped the lead to 14-0, and he also scored on a 1-yard run with 10:29 remaining in the second quarter.

Pitcher extended his streak of throwing at least one TD pass in a game to a school record-tying nine contests with his 20-yard strike to Miller with 6:24 left in the first half. Miller made a running catch toward the left side of the end zone and was able to get a foot down inbounds for the score. Pitcher's 3-yard TD pass to Kaufmann extended the lead to 35-3 with 4:02 left in the half. That score was set up by an Evan Wyler (Warwick/Warwick Valley) 28-yard interception return to the Mustangs' 1-yard line.

Junior Cody Allen (Medina) paced Cortland's defense with 11 tackles, including a sack, and senior Lou Crispo (Eastchester) made seven tackles. Two of Wyler's six tackles were for lost yardage, and his interception was one of four Red Dragon picks along with senior Joe Lopez (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue), his team-high fifth of the season, senior Mason Ellis (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) and sophomore Steven Lenhart (Ticonderoga).

Sean Barrett led Morrisville with 74 yards rushing. The Mustangs' three quarterbacks, however, combined to complete only 11-of-29 passes for 105 yards. Tommy Moyon led the hosts with nine tackles and Jeremy Stewart had eight stops.

Cortland finished the game with a 373-264 advantage in total offense. The Red Dragons scored touchdowns on each of their first five possessions and six of their first seven drives. Morrisville, on the other hand, had four of its six drives into Cortland territory end either on downs or by turnover.
