Travis Burke finished second in three-meter diving and fourth in one-meter diving
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sophomore Kyle Kaznowski (Kingston) and junior Travis Burke (Massapequa) each earned runner-up diving finishes and freshman Matt Distler (Glens Falls) placed third in two individual swimming events as Cortland opened the season at the three-team NYU Invitational. Stevens Institute won the meet with 978 points, followed by NYU with 581 and Cortland with 408.
Kaznowski scored 277.73 points for his runner-up finish on the one-meter board and also finished third on the three-meter board with 253.05 points. Burke finished second on the three-meter board (262.73 pts.) and was fourth on the one-meter board (255.83 pts.). Distler had the third-best time in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.54) and 100-yard freestyle (49.54).
Freshman Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) finished fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:58.26) and senior Dan Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) was fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:49.12).
Cortland's best relay finishes were third-place efforts by the 400-yard medley relay (3:44.69) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.77) teams. Sophomore Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg), junior Danny Salvatore (Clarence), junior Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport) and Distler swam in the 400 medley relay, while Distler, sophomore Dan Maximowicz (Binghamton/Chenango Forks), sophomore Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) and freshman Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) comprised the 200 freestyle relay.
